Summer Calendar 2023
Morristown Recreation

April 2023

Dear Valued Community Member

Morristown Recreation has served the Lamoille County community for over 65 years providing summer camp experiences and care for countless families. Many families have spoken with staff about the fond memories of their Morristown Recreation Camp experience over many decades.

We have begun restructuring programming for this community staple. We believe that the families in our community should have access to quality camp experiences and that the youth in our community are our greatest assets. This program is essential for the health and welfare of many of our Lamoille County families.  Our goal is to provide them with quality programming, equipment, scheduled activities, field trips, and professional staffing. This year we are looking to raise funding to go toward purchasing new age-appropriate equipment, hosting quality field trips, and providing professional staff training, water bottles, and T-shirts for our campers.

Each week has a theme and set of values that we will be focusing on and working on with our campers and staff. Included values are safety, belonging, respect, responsibility, friendship, creativity, compassion, integrity, gratitude, teamwork, honesty, perseverance, dignity, and worth. Please see the attached programming for more detailed information on our summer camp!

We are reaching out to you as citizens and business owners in our community and asking for your help. Would you partner with us in giving a donation toward this quality programming in our community? Your contributions over the years have helped us tremendously. We value our local businesses and want to support you in return. Your name will go on the back of all our T-shirts, be printed in our parent handbooks, appear in the local newspaper, as well as be printed on our event banners. We appreciate your partnership and support!
Please reach out to me with any questions or suggestions or concerns.

Deeply appreciated,
Anna McCormick

Thank you for supporting the Morristown Summer Recreation Camp program! Our goal is to invest in the children in our community, as we are providing an essential summer care service for working families in Lamoille County. Our camp will no longer be visiting Lake Elmore every afternoon. Instead, we are expanding programming to include local hiking trails, stream walks, state parks community programming, and field trips. Each week campers will visit a local hiking trail, including Beaver Meadow, Lamoille Nature Center, Moss Glen Falls, Cascade Falls, Stowe Bike Path, Cady’s Falls, and the Mill Trail in Stowe. All our staff is trained in CPR/First Aid, with many also holding lifeguard certifications.

The 4th week of camp will be a devoted bike safety week. Morristown Recreation is partnering with Local Motion and will be providing our campers and staff with a Bike Smart training program, as well as a trailer with over 30 bicycles and helmets for children who do not have bicycles to use for the week. This program includes a safety obstacle course that campers will go through at each station to learn another bike safety technique and skill. Wednesday of bike week we are hosting a bike stunt show by Chris Poulos and inviting our neighboring community youth programs to participate. Chris is a world champion athlete, youth motivational speaker, and aspiring author who shares powerful life lessons as he demonstrates amazing bicycle stunts. He specializes in core values, anti-bullying, and character education.

Our final week of camp will focus on community service and volunteering. For 3 days our campers will sign up for different volunteer activities throughout Morristown. If there are any suggestions you have or needs that you see we could meet, we would love your feedback, and hope to see you out in the community!

The concluding day of the camp will be a picnic celebration of the wonderful summer we’ve had and will include a carnival at Oxbow Park. On August 11th, we are inviting our community families, partners, and sponsors to join us for an afternoon of BBQ and fun! A few of the activities will be a miniature golf course, lawn games, face painting, water balloon toss, crafts, and many more! Please mark your calendars now and plan on joining us!
